Q: What is the main role of IPQAM in interactive digital TV systems? What is the role of IPQAM's Region Code information (Region ID)? A: The main function of IPQAM modulator, which can input the request program stream transmitted from IP backbone network into the specified IPQAM, and reuse it into the designated multi-service transmission stream. Then QAM modulation and frequency conversion are carried out. The output radio frequency signal is transmitted in HFC network for receiving by interactive set-top boxes of home users, whose interactive set-top boxes demodulate the requested program.

 

In interactive digital TV, IPQAM region code information (Region ID) plays the role of interactive set-top box location, that is, when STB requests service, it needs to submit this information to CDN. Head-end system can be distinguish which set-top box requests from which region, and assign the corresponding routing for video server to transmit video data stream.
